A Rebirth Of Sorts

*sneaks back onto Blogger and updates as if there was never an absence* Yeah, at this point we really don't even need to clarify my wishy-washiness. Alot of things have changed, alot of things have happened, I've been busy with work/school, blah blah blah. So basically, the usual. But, I've been missing my blog lately, so I figured why not at least try and see if I can't make this updating thing happen every once in a blue moon. Like I said before, I've been swamped with life, and it's been overwhelming. However, it's completely wonderful, and consuming. I enjoy wonderful and consuming, no change there. So like, can we get to the 'fit though?

Basically, my life has shifted in dramatic ways, and so has my wardrobe. It's only right. I've been feeling a lot more edgy lately, (yes, even more than usual) and have been so bored with my wardrobe/fashion choices up until recently. I figured, why not just do it all, go all out and try everything? It's all a process of recycling, as it is. That being said, I took a darker turn with this look. I've got my black velvet skirt on deck, ALWAYS. I really wear that thing everyday, it seems. Every other day, at least. I figured, throw an off white sweater into the mix, no need to scare absolutely everyone away. Because my obvious first choice was a black one. But this sweater is pretty rad being that it only cost FIFTY CENTS. Fifty American cents, people. And on top of that, it's cozy and slouchy. Yes, my midriff is trying to get all the attention and yes, it was cold but you know how I like to spice things up. Is safety pinning my sweater up to my midriff spicy enough, you guys??

Of course, I had to go with my always trusty black lip. Because why not, I've gone this far already. I often forget I've got an intense shade of darkness on my lips whenever I go out and am always confused by the stares. Hahaha, good times, good times..

Anyways, it's a rebirth of sorts for me, you know? I'm just kind of going with the flow right now and seeing where things take me. I'm teaching myself guitar, and writing more. I need to get better, but these things will come. I'll definitely work on filling you guys in more, because I just know how much you all care about my outfits and my life and my etceteras, but all sarcasm aside: if you really do care, that's great and why I'll get better at updating!

Until next time weirdos,
xoxo

My Week in Instagrams

Hello blogging world! As always, I've missed you guys and my blog during my latest "prodigal son" phase. *Insert typical "life is crazy" sentence here* At any rate, this post isn't a real outfit post or anything, but while I had the time I wanted to update with something, so I'm using Instagram once again for what it's good for. Also, I'm blogging from the Blogger app on my iPhone, so there is only so much I can do.

The past few weeks have been something of a whirlwind, between making big life decisions, signing up for classes (yep, I'm going back baby!) job hunting and just trying to remain sane in general. Through it all, I've learned that one of the best ways to relax is a hammock. I was lucky enough to get one from my friend Trey, and have been obsessed with my new baby ever since. $8 hammocks at Wal-greens cannot be beat. (shameless plug)

I also had a visit from a lovely friend of mine, Hali. Check out her blog at www.plunderwander.blogspot.com. It's always nice to know that even if you live a long distance away from a friend, the relationship doesn't have to end there because you both value the friendship enough to still communicate and visit. Those are the kinds of relationships that are meant to be preserved, honestly. It was great to catch up while downing shots of whiskey and chasing them with Yuengling. An A+ weekend, if I do say so myself.

Last week also consisted of a wedding. One of Trey's good friends from high school got married and we had the privilege of getting to attend. It was a nice, simple arrangement and everyone was so welcoming. I learned that I should meet more of Trey's friends. I hadn't realized that before this I'd only met maybe one or two?

So my birthday is next Monday and I found the perfect shoes for it (that anyone can feel free to purchase for me, if their heart desires). Cute, brown Jeffrey Campbell platform sandals. WITH RETRACTABLE WHEELS. Fuckin' cutting edge, if you ask me. Anyhow, we'll see how that goes. Honestly, I just want to be with a bunch of friends, see Wye Oak the night before and get good and drunk for my birthday, and I'll be content. I have a feeling that might be what goes down. Either way, I'll keep you guys posted with pictures and much detail of what goes down in the coming week. Until then, take care lovelies! Xoxo

Cut It Out

Yesterday was another DIY day. I've recently made a list in my notebook of projects I'd like to do and ideas. I got to check off a shirt with cut out shoulders. I've been seeing a lot of those shirts around lately, and have been wanting one so I went at it and voila! I think it turned out alright, at least for a first attempt.

It's been so humid lately that I can't even think straight. Currently suffering from that whole "unsatisfied with the weather" thing that everyone in the world deals with once the seasons change. Haha, I just need some cooler air. I had to bust out some of the shortest shorts I own! Well warranted, though. These dreamcatcher boots haven't seen much daylight but I'm going to incorporate them into a lot more of my 'fits. Topped everything off with my favorite necklace for a BAM effect. My best friend Trey got it for me for Christmas via Urban Outfitters. Ah-mazing. I'm done chit-chatting for now, gonna go try to find a way to keep cool for the remainder of another humid day!

Playing Catch-Up

You caught me, I'm wearing pink, and kinda lovin' it. It's not that I'm completely against the girly color, I just don't have much of it and it always seems weird for me to own anything of the sort. But this, I can dig this. What girl can't dig a pink corset? I don't know many, but I don't know that I'd want to know any!
I didn't do the color coordinating of the socks on purpose, but hey: you only live once (my excuse). Some Tommy Hilfiger high waisted shorts to top everything off, and of course my booties of the moment, because with shoes it's hard for me to deviate. I fixate.

That is an orange lip you see there, why thanks for asking! I mean why not, you know?

This post is a little short due to the drawn out nature of the last one, and because I've done two in one day, back to back. No need to pull the overkill move on you guys. You will get tired of me as it is! Haha. Hope you enjoy this beautiful day, I'll be back before I know it! (Yeah, I said that right.)

No Longer A Bonnarookie!

So the past week can only be described as a whirlwind of immense fun, chaos and unbelievable tiredness. Ladies and gentleman: Bonnaroo. I'd stumbled upon the opportunity to work it sometime last year, but I had a steady job at the time, and didn't want to tamper with that. This year however, I've been footloose and fancy free, jobless and bored. So working Bonnaroo it was, because why not make a lot of money while lolligagging with your friends and listening to amazing music?

Let's make no mistake, the shifts were not made for pussies (excuse my language, but there's really no other way to put it). The first day was a 14 hour shift, and the rest of the week was comprised of 12 hour shifts. In your downtime you had the choice of either sleeping or going to see some pretty amazing live shows. If you know me, or anyone I hang around, we didn't sleep. Thankfully, the atmosphere doesn't really support much slumber, so anytime we did feel uber tired, we got a boost of energy from the people, the weather (was either super hot or super cold with a side of rain) and the music. I couldn't have asked for a better first experience at Bonnaroo, and I'm ecstatic that I can now say I'm no longer a rookie! Here are just a few pictures I snapped along the way...there are so many on my phone, but there's no reason for overload. I do want to share some of the outfits my friends wore, along with some shots I got of a few of my favorite performances.

My pals Savannah, Alicia, and Heidi as we waited between shows. From what you can see, they all look so cute, they had to be photographed (even Heidi's sunglasses)! I think we were headed to The Temper Trap after this. We'd just gotten a dose of Das Racist right before.

It was such a triumph when we finally found these ladies. This is actually the last day of the festival, and amidst the lethargic weariness, our excitement for The Beach Boys could not be tamed! Let me just say, they were amazing as you guys probably figured. I still can't believe I saw them live...
From left to Right: Me, Stephanie, Rachel and Trey

Trey and I saved the last day for treating ourselves and that we did with these Cajun Chicken Wraps. I'm drooling right now looking at this, I must continue with the next photo. #fatgirlproblems

Lovely Paris looks lovely here. We had just showered and were ready to head out on our first day of "festivaling". Her outfit here is easily one of my favorites.

What would a post about Bonnaroo be without the infamous arch? Me and my happy self when I finally got to take a picture of it.

I do wish I had an actual camera for better quality, especially with this photo, but this is the VIP Lounge where Trey and I worked, toiled and sweated each day. Haha, okay nothing too crazy like actual toiling, but definitely worked and sweat. Pretty sweet gig if I do say so, myself...

Trey relaxing and looking cool. I love his shirt, definitely the theme of any festival I've ever been to.

And here is me and my favorite person in the world. This was during Tune-Yards AH-mazing set. We may or may not have been slightly intoxicalirious (intoxicated and delirious), but alas we made sure we were half naked like the rest of the rock and roll lovers around.

Yeah I know. I can't believe it either. Bon Iver. Yes, we were in the pit for this. I witnessed a girl either pass out indefinitely or die, I stood in human feces (I love you that much, Justin Vernon) and oh yes, I cried.

It's been a lifelong goal of mine (well, since I was like 15) to see The Shins. They were everything I hoped for and more. Hopefully it won't be another 15 years before I see them again!

Beautiful Santigold, doing her thing, making me love her even more than was humanly possible. This was the show that rocked my face off, I must say. Just...WOW.

Last but not least, the coolest thing happened to me at Bonnaroo. I was stopped twice by two different photographers, wanting to take style shots. Not the biggest deal in the world, but for someone like me, KIND OF. I honestly can't tell you much about one of the photo sessions because the guy didn't really fill me in on much...it was kind of touch and go...but I did actually talk to the other for a minute afterwards, and she was legitimately cool!

Heidi Jewell is a freelance photographer for Elle and Nylon and has also done some pieces for Style.com. She specializes mostly in street style and I will forever be jealous of her for having my dream jobs in the photography realm (until I become a freelance writer for the same zines, that is!). Please check out her blog: www.undertheguise.com and view the first post, which includes a bunch of other hotties she captured at the Roo. I was definitely surprised because I didn't feel really fashionable a bulk of the time I was there, but it's always nice to have someone else notice that and compliment it. Here is an instagrammed photo of the one she shot:

Can you guys tell I had fun?! Haha, I don't know if I've ever written this much in one post, but I must say I enjoyed every bit of it. And oh yeah, I'm about to post another about today's outfit. Janet overload! So all in all, I had a wonderful vacation from the real world, got to see some of my favorite bands and will be attending next year, working or not. Until next time, peace and love!

Stoop Kid

Today was a rainy Tuesday, as has been the popular thing with the weather for the past few days. Not that I minded too much, a little rain's good every now and then. But because of said rain, my sister refused to leave the stoop to take pictures in a better location. Hence the stoop kid title, haha.

I didn't do much today. It's actually been a pretty boring, drab day. Hopefully tomorrow will have something more exciting attached to it. But for today, I thought a long muumuu-like dress with a belt to cinch it fit the mood. Of course I'm once again rocking my new boots. Well new, new. The pair from the last post were just so uncomfortable, I went back to the thrift store yesterday to find another identical pair. Not too hard, those type of boots are commonplace in the thrift world.

I said something a few weeks back about wanting one of those plastic chokers that were so huge in the nineties. I've been feeling 12 lately, I guess. At any rate, I haven't gotten my hands on any lately, (or looked for any, really) so I just cut the bottom of a black skirt and made a DIY choker for the time being. It was so easy and serves the same purpose as the plastic ones, so I'm thinking I'll just keep on rocking this one through and through.

What are some cool DIY things you guys have been into doing lately? I'd definitely love to hear some tips/stories/suggestions. Hopefully I can shower you guys with a lot more DIY goodies soon. For now, I'm out though. My eyes have been wanting to close all day for the longest...nap time, here I come...

I'm Talkin' Grunge and Fro

Happy Friday everyone! And what a good and bright Friday it is. I'm typing from a computer at the moment, so I am ecstatic, as odd as that sounds (but not really, considering how I've had to use my phone to blog the past few times!). I won't lie, long nails and typing on a keyboard dont mix, though. When will I ever learn? I haven't been on a computer in so long, I'd forgotten, haha.

Anyways, today I was feeling grungy, if you couldn't tell from the outfit. Pulled out my tribal print skort, (you read that correctly, SKORT) side-cropped a printed tee, busted out the new Spice Girl boots with the regular cut-off vest, and called it a freaking day! No effort and alot of 90's inspiration is what this is, kids. I have no idea why my style has been reverting back to grunge lately. Even my music. I've been on an overload of Joy Division, Nirvana (obvs), The Misfits, At The Drive In, any other random typical grunge band you can think of...but who am I kidding? We all know my soul resides where the plaid and shredded tees are.

Man, oh man. I'm loving these new babies of mine aka Spice Girl ankle boots. I have to do a little bit of squeezing to wear them, but don't call me crazy and we all have our own vices, OKAY.

So I know I do this ADHD thing where I not only jump from subject to subject (what's a segue?) and sometimes bust out these new looks without any explanation, so I figured now is as good a time as any to update you guys on my hair transformation! Check the above pic: the fro abides. :) I've done practically every (bad) thing to my hair under the sun, and a couple of months ago, my hair was so dry and damaged that I really didn't see any chance for a hair future if i didn't shave the mess. So shave the mess I did, and of course it's been different, and I'm a girl, so yeah duh, I miss my hair 50 percent of the time (although I rarely think about it anymore), but the fro growth and healthiness is pretty cool as well. And yes, to be cliched: It's hair, it'll grow back.

Everything: Thrifted

DIY and Bargain Buy

So as of late, my closet has been kind of stale. And yes, with me trying to save any little sum of money I get these days, clothes shopping really hasn't been a top priority. (Sad day. Believe me, I KNOW.) And closet staleness is to be expected. It happens. You guys all know I like to closet shop though, so duh, that's definitely what I've been doing recently-with a twist!

I've always had a knack for sewing up little things and making improvisations (dang, is that a word?) to clothes but I can't lie and say I've been keeping up with that like I should. I've been so bored lately though, that I've slowly picked the hobby back up. Within the first few seconds of my hand reuniting with needle and thread, I was instantaneously converted back to the old, craftier Janet. So basically, besides raiding my closet as usual, I've updated a couple of things. Gotta keep things fresh. You know.

The first picture is a collage (or just a double picture, I guess?) of remodeled shirts my friend Trey and I did. One of our good friends had an old lady floral shirt accompanied with an old lady brown gross sweater thing that I decided to turn into a fanny pack crop top. (OBSESSED WID DA FANNY) Trey hooked up her 80's blazer, and now it's a trendy half tie-shirt thingy that everybody's rocking nowadays. We both just sat for hours, hand-sewing these pieces and forgetting about the time. The sun was literally coming up when we left...

Secondly, that navy blue, polka dotted romper was a nice little thrift find a year ago when it was a dress. Sadly, a year passes and I hadn't worn it because it was TOO short of a dress. No matter, I just took some scissors , needle and thread to it and wahlah-romper FTW.

Last but not least is my bargain buy of the day. Got two pairs of ankle boots, a shirt and a skirt for $6.50 at J. Crew! No I'm just kidding, at the thrift store, duh. I'm like a broken record with that. Anyways, it was quite successful. But enough about me. Really, that was just too much. Hahaha anyways, feel free to leave your thoughts. I love comments! Till next time

Instablogging

Amazing isn't it?! Technology, that is. Before I start raving about how in love with it I am and how I would like to consummate this love sooner than later, let me once again apologize for my absence. But I won't repeat the phrase I usually do: life is crazy, and so many new things have been happening that I'll fill you guys in on later! Ok there, I repeated it. Well anyways, during this hiatus of mine I acquired an iPhone due to an upgrade, so yeah, I finally became a "cool kid". My favorite part about having an Apple product (OF COURSE) is indeed Instagram. So the other day, I was thinking of ways I could update while I'm out of a computer right now. My phone came to mind, but the browser didn't support uploading pictures from your phone. I discovered this Blogger app not too long after and decided I would just post instagrammed blog posts until I can do otherwise. Better this than nothing, I figured! So that's where I am right now with the blogging, and I hope you guys enjoy this route. Different, but not really. These days a filtered picture is a filtered picture is a filtered picture. Did that make any sense? I won't lie and act as if I'm not just a tad bit delirious today. If you couldn't tell by my rambling...All of this being said, this post has no theme. I just figured I'd put up some pictures of random photos of things that have occurred between now and the last time I've updated. Hope you guys enjoy! I promise I'll be back with actual outfit posts regularly, seeing as how I've discovered this app. And until the computer is back in action, I'll be instablogging my little heart out! P.S.- follow me on instagram if you would like! @janetnneoma
